Pullman Phuket Arcadia is proud to present “Faces of Siam” Exhibition, collaboration with international artist Mr. Oliver Schibli showcasing his modern pieces fromhis unique lifelines.
We are delighted to be the pioneer of Pullman’s art initiative ‘Artist Playground’ in Phuket – Part gallery, part studio but wholly unexpected and inspiring. The Artist Playground is an initiative intended to add elements of local interest, cultural intrigue and visual ingenuity to the hotel’s communal space, said General Manager, Mr. Brett Wilson.
Oliver is a self-taught artist that began in his early years of school. After his early experiments in painting and art he decided to do a 4 year apprenticeship as a sign maker and went to the visual school of art in Bern, Switzerland. There he learned the different techniques from writing with feathers, working with gold leaf, the color gauge, screen printing and all the other important aspects of creating. It was essential to learn the basics of the different materials, techniques and possibilities. After this important stage a dark period came in his life with his mother committing suicide. He went through a 10 year period of creative blocks and trying to forget the tragedy. In this period, he lost the will to create but at the age of thirty he overcame this dark period and started thinking and creating serious art again. Using the skills and the tragedy of life experiences he now knew he wanted to become one of the most successful and known artists in the world.
Oliver said “I work with materials like gold leaf and acrylic on canvas or directly on furniture or murals. I never stop experimenting. I like to explore different themes, different styles, always evolving and learning.
“For me canvas is a place of meditation and construction, of immersion in to the past and projection into the future. I like to move on the border between figures and abstraction and I have boundless faith in clean and bright colors”
The Resort’s artistic exhibition by Oliver is an exemplification of Pullman brand’s signature global art initiative – which promises to bring the design vision of artists and designers around the world to life. First to launch in Phuket, Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach “Artist Playground” will be open to guests and the general public, the dynamic exhibition will last for three to four months starting from June 23 2017.
