WEEKLY BEACH CLEANING

We’re proud to call the stunning shores of Naithon Beach our home. Although Naithon Beach is still considered a public beach, we want to do everything we can to ensure it is pristine for our guests to enjoy. Every Wednesday our team organizes a beach clean, picking up rubbish and leaving a safe environment for our guests and local wildlife.

HEARTBREAK HILL: A CHARITY EVENT RESTORED TO ITS FORMER GLORY

“We are blessed and very proud of what has been achieved so far! Our donations help kids to go be kids!”

This is a story of generosity and perseverance, worthy of Accor’s Heartist values. It all started in 2015, when Accor’s Heartists® in Southern Thailand joined hands to create the first Heartbreak Hill Mini Marathon in the countryside around Naithon Beach. Giving to charity is very much anchored in the Thai culture, and the company wanted to support children in need. This first event was a huge success, with 1,880 tickets sold and generous funds raised, enabling a total donation of THB120,000 (roughly €3,200). From 2016 to 2019, the fun run continued, each time raising hundreds of thousands of Thai baht for charity.

And then Covid broke the momentum…

So, imagine the disappointment, heartbreak even, when participation almost halved and profits dropped after the two-year break forced by the COVID19 pandemic. The organizers were used to selling about 3,000 tickets but only managed about 1,700 in 2022. The event barely broke even, generating the lowest donation yet, barely anything for the children. So, the Heartbreak Hill Marathon was put on hold the following year.

What a comeback!

But never defeated, Accor’s teams gave it another shot in 2024 and achieved their best results yet! That year, the marathon was back on track, with 3,200 tickets sold and THB1.1 million raised (~€29,363), enabling a total donation of THB686,000 (more than €18,300)! Thanks to the involvement of more than 650 Heartists® from 18 Accor hotels in three provinces, Accor was able to help 120 kids with mental disabilities and 200 school children from the local community.

This encouraging success has set a new benchmark and provided the impetus for future events. Since 2015, the event has impacted more than 2,400 children, great proof that Accor cares about its community. Congratulations to the team for their amazing comeback!

GIVING BACK TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY ON 9TH YEAR HOTEL ANNIVERSARY

Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon completed its 9th year in service and to celebrate, in the spirit of giving back, the resort packed and handed out 200 Life Bags directly to the local community of Saku. Each Life Bag is packed with staple dried and canned foods and household products which feed a family of 4 people, for up to 4 days.
Pullman Phuket become the first hotel to complete and roll out the joint initiative by Living Waters Phuket and the Phuket Hotels Association Life Bag Project.

“This Life Bag project ties in with our 9th year Hotel anniversary, and instead of using funds to celebrate with our guests we decided to spend it where it is truly needed, and give back to the community we live in. Seeing the smiles and relief on the local peoples’ faces makes it worthwhile, and we will continue to support these types of initiatives the best we can in Phuket during 2022 and beyond.

If there is one thing this pandemic has taught us is we need more compassion, empathy and community spirit on this planet which needs to start at a local level. The fantastic job Shaun and his team are doing should be an inspiration to us all and the 200 Life bags to the Saku area is the least we could do to support.”

Bret Wilson, General Manager – Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon.

What is the PHA Life Bag Initiative?

Living Waters Phuket are all too familiar with the fact that the local communities need immediate attention, and currently there is an all-time high demand for short-term emergency food relief.

As a result of this, they worked with the Phuket Hotels Association, and their members, to create a campaign where hotels in and around Phuket could donate 100+ Life Bags to their local community. This campaign is a short-term CSR initiative targeted at hotels aiding their own local districts, who are in need of assistance.

Living Waters Phuket

Living Waters Phuket is a new NGO Foundation, started by Shaun Stenning, which was set up to help raise awareness and provide funding to registered charities and foundations, in order for them to fulfil projects or relief aid to underprivileged communities.

“It’s great to see businesses, foundations and private individuals all combining together to recognise the needs of the local community during this difficult rebuilding time. These sorts of joint effort business, government and Foundation projects should be the cornerstone of how we rebuild Phuket sustainably.” said Shaun Stenning.

Living Waters Phuket are continuing to work with the Phuket Hotels Association to roll out the project across Phuket and the surrounding islands. They are currently liaising with Phuket’s OrBorTors and Village Chiefs to identify critical needs for each hotel’s local area.

ONE PHUKET AND ALL

JOINING FORCES IN AN ACT OF SOLIDARITY TO COMBAT THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 IN PHUKET.

In Phuket, the devastating effects of COVID-19 continue to be felt by the community due to low levels of domestic tourism and the closure of international borders. In response to the situation, a group of residents have joined together to launch ‘One Phuket’, a community driven initiative which seeks to support those in dire need of assistance and propose solutions for various issues.

Accor’s lifestyle loyalty programme, ALL – Accor Live Limitless has collaborated with One Phuket to assist in the donation of food parcels, or ‘life bags’, through a THB 80,000 grant to the cause. The life bags will be donated to residents of Phuket who are facing financial difficulty due to lack of employment or reduced hours of work. One Phuket is able to feed around 8,000 people on a weekly basis through the distribution of 2,000 parcels

One Phuket is a community driven initiative founded in 2021 which acts to support the community in response to the COVID-19 pandemic through a range of initiatives.

Those wishing to support One Phuket can visit The Facebook Group One Phuket for more information.

MEANINGFUL MEETINGS – BIKE GIVEAWAY

Pay it forward, it’s a chain reaction… The kids from Baan Sakoo School were thrilled to receive shiny new bikes donated by a group of our generous guests.

We love helping our guests give back to the community. Our team had the amazing opportunity to create a meaningful meetings solution for one of our corporate groups who were looking to donate bikes to a local school in Phuket. There is nothing like making someone else smile, and we were so honored to be a part of making this happen.

HEARTBREAK HILL

After huge success from 1st and 2nd years at Naithon Beach, Accor Hotels & Resorts in southern Thailand has hosted an exciting and challenging event for ALL to participate in. This annual charity walk-run takes place at Ban Ao Nam Bo School with the goal to raise funds for local schools in Phuket and nearby provinces and support Accor Yim Kids Project, which is a part of Accor Corporate Social Responsibility.

Our team look forward to this event each year as a special opportunity to partner with Phuket to support Phuket through a variety of initiatives, and off course have fun at the same time.
